The stretch ceiling system relies on just two key components, both equally important to the installation’s success. The membrane is the centerpiece—what everyone sees first—and it covers roughly 95% of the room’s surface. As such, the membrane’s quality must be flawless. As installers, we do not manufacture the membrane ourselves. Instead, production is handled by large companies, often in the plastics industry. The membranes are created in their factories and packaged into rolls of various widths: 6.6 feet, 10.6 feet, or 16 feet (2 meters, 3.2 meters, or 5 meters wide). These rolls are then sold to hundreds of companies, each of which welds their own harpoons, specially designed to match the specific tracks used for installation. The harpoons are essential as they allow the membrane to be secured into the tracks, with each harpoon and track specifically engineered to work together.

Since 1990, we have worked with the same European supplier, providing us with harpooned membranes and tracks. This supplier sources from some of the world’s largest and most reputable stretch membrane manufacturers. While we are frequently approached by other vendors offering significantly lower prices, we are cautious, as quality is always a concern. Our experience, reputation, and the long-term sustainability of our business take precedence over short-term profit, reflecting our deep commitment to customer satisfaction. There are instances where people have had to vacate their apartments for several days due to the strong chemical odor from low-quality membranes during installation—the smell of plastic was overwhelming. This is a clear sign that inferior membranes exist in the stretch ceiling market.
